The layout of Olivia Monteforte’s store allows perspective customers to view the equipment she uses for her made to order custom shoes. “The most difficult part is joining the pieces of leather together… It needs to be very precise”Olivia Monteforte uses stencils to guide where she needs to cut the leather. Each stencil uses measurements from the customer’s foot to ensure a perfect fit.Monteforte meets with clients’ multiple times throughout the shoemaking process to ensure the clients are satisfied with the look and feel of the shoe.“This pattern is special because there is only one cut, and it is all one piece of leather. It’s one of my favorite pairs.” During this stage of the shoe making process, Olivia Monteforte glues the leather to the bottom of the insole before gluing and then stitching on the sole.“I had one customer whose shoes fit for a week, but then they did not anymore. This is why I meet with my customers so many times to make sure the shoes fit well.” “All of these are unfinished projects because the customer was not happy, or they did not fit well.” Monteforte said.
